Business Case:
American Public University System is a private, for-profit, online university system composed of American Military University and American Public University with needs to address learners in regions with connectivity challenges but also positions the university as a leader in adaptive and flexible online education delivery.

Opportunities:
With a predominant student population deployed overseas on active duty, the university acknowledges the sporadic or non-existent internet connectivity in such regions. The pivotal opportunity lies in enabling students to access course content offline and subsequently synchronize it when internet connectivity becomes available.

Objective:
Utilize specific technology to create online courses using Adobe inDesign in conjunction with Adobe AEM can be designed to be compatible with various devices and platforms, ensuring a seamless experience for learners on desktops, tablets, and smartphones.

Outcome:
Recognized for its potential to benefit students during overseas deployment where active-duty soldiers experienced the benefit of taking essential courses for their degrees without interruptions or delays in graduation, the APUS Lessons app was honored as an Educational App Award finalist in the Wharton-QS Stars Reimagine Education Awards.

I have known and worked with Ty Crawford for about 10 years. Ty is one of the most creative people I’ve had the pleasure of working with. Not only does he come up with solutions when there are seemingly no options available, his work is beautiful. I’m always impressed by the perfection with the work he outputs.

UI / UX (User Interface / User Experience)

Digital Publishing through inDesign

In the Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) front-end UI/UX design for the APUS Lessons application, students initiate the process by downloading the app, signing in, and viewing their registered courses for the semester. Following this, they have the option to install their chosen courses, and it’s noteworthy that no internet connectivity is necessary for launching and interacting with the course content.

UI/UX App and Web

UI/UX design for web, mobile, and tablet applications

Digital Assets

Example of the user experience, layout, components, and interactions.

LXD (Learning Experience Design)

Digital Publishing through inDesign

Layout and content design in InDesign and then published via Adobe DPS to enhance it with interactive elements, such as videos, slideshows, and buttons. The resulting digital publications could be distributed through various app stores or viewed through web browsers.

Digital Publication Layout Design

Interactive components with inDesign Multi-state Objects (MSO).

A variety of UI components such as tabs, accordions, videos, drag-and-drop interactions, and interactive maps were created and stored as templates. These templates ensured the efficient creation of interactive elements while maintaining a unified and consistent appearance.
